Privacy Policy

Effective August 5, 2026

Sedlacek Solutions LLC (“Sedlacek Solutions,” “we,” “us,” or “our”) provides the Chapter mobile application, website, and related services (together, “Chapter”). This policy explains what information Chapter handles, why we use it, when it is shared, and the choices available to you.

Information Chapter handles

Account and authentication information

Chapter uses Sign in with Apple. We receive an Apple-specific account identifier and, if you choose to share them, your name and email address or Apple private relay address. Chapter creates its own account identifier and authentication tokens. Authentication tokens are stored in your device Keychain and as protected hashes on our servers.

Your private stories and preferences

We process the information you choose to provide, including interview answers, drafts, transcripts, chapter text, summaries, highlights, revisions, timeline dates or periods, categories, values, feelings, storyteller details, interviewer choices, writing preferences, feedback, and learned interview preferences or continuity facts. This content may include information about you or other people.

Voice, photos, and exports

If you use dictation, microphone audio is provided to Apple Speech Recognition under your device permissions. Chapter receives the resulting text; Chapter does not upload or store your raw microphone recording on its servers. If you select a cover photo, it is used on your device to create the ebook. Chapter creates PDF ebook exports on your device and sends them only to the destination you choose through Apple's share sheet.

Support, reports, and diagnostics

If you submit a suggestion, issue report, or question report, we receive the text you enter and structured details such as the report reason. Support requests also include the app version, build number, device type, and operating-system version. A reported interviewer question and any optional note are retained so we can investigate it.

Subscriptions and analytics

We process a Chapter account identifier, product identifier, entitlement status, renewal status, and expiration date to provide and restore paid access. If you explicitly enable Share Analytics in Settings, Chapter sends TelemetryDeck an anonymized installation identifier, rounded event timing, app and device metadata, and allowlisted product events and structured choices. Analytics does not include your stories, answers, transcripts, audio, support text, report notes, name, email, or Chapter account identifier. Analytics is off by default and your choice takes effect after relaunching Chapter.

Website and service activity

Our hosting and security providers may process standard technical data such as IP address, request time, device or browser type, requested page, and error or security events. The Chapter website does not currently use advertising trackers, analytics scripts, or cookies for visitor profiling.

How we use information

  • Authenticate your account, maintain sessions, and prevent misuse.
  • Create, save, synchronize, restore, edit, and delete your content.
  • Provide guided interviews, story generation, revisions, and narration.
  • Create metadata suggestions and personalize interviews when enabled.
  • Provide subscriptions, restore purchases, and enforce feature access.
  • Respond to support requests and investigate reported questions.
  • Maintain security, reliability, backups, and legal compliance.
  • Improve Chapter using analytics only when you opt in.

Where applicable, we process information to perform our agreement with you, with your permission, to comply with law, and for legitimate interests such as securing, supporting, and improving Chapter. You may withdraw optional permissions at any time, although features that require the information will no longer work.

AI processing

With your explicit permission, Chapter sends OpenAI the relevant draft, interview transcript, story text, revision instructions, or narration text needed to provide AI-backed questions, stories, summaries, metadata suggestions, revisions, and generated speech. That content may contain personal information you included in your answers. We do not send your Apple credentials or subscription payment details to OpenAI.

Chapter requests that OpenAI not store generated text as application state. OpenAI states that API data is not used to train its models by default unless the API customer opts in, but it may retain API inputs, outputs, and related metadata temporarily for abuse monitoring or longer when legally required. See OpenAI's API data controls. You can withdraw AI-processing permission in Chapter Settings. This blocks future AI requests without deleting stories already saved.

Service providers and disclosures

Chapter relies on the following providers for specific functions:

  • Apple for Sign in with Apple, App Store payments, device permissions, speech recognition, and sharing.
  • OpenAI for AI-assisted text generation and generated speech after you grant permission.
  • DigitalOcean for backend hosting, managed PostgreSQL, backups, and private generated-audio object storage.
  • RevenueCat for subscription and entitlement management.
  • TelemetryDeck for optional, anonymized, content-free product analytics.
  • OpenAI Sites and its infrastructure providers for the Chapter website.

These providers may process information in other countries and handle it under their own terms and privacy commitments. We may also disclose information when required by law, to protect users or Chapter, in an emergency, or as part of a merger, financing, acquisition, or sale of assets subject to appropriate protections.

No sale, advertising, or public profile

We do not sell your personal information or stories. We do not share personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising, use third-party advertising SDKs, or track your activity across other companies' apps and websites. Your Chapter account is not a public profile or social feed. Chapter does not publish user stories. Content leaves the app for another destination only when you deliberately export or share it.

Retention

  • Account information, saved chapters, and completed interview history remain while your account is active or until you delete them.
  • Inactive draft interview sessions are scheduled for deletion after 30 days without an update.
  • Generated interview audio associated with a finalized chapter is scheduled for deletion within 7 days. Audio for an abandoned draft is deleted with that draft. Access links expire after a short period.
  • Locally generated ebook files remain in temporary device storage or at the destination you select, subject to the device and destination's controls.
  • Support, safety, transaction, analytics, and provider records are kept only as needed for their purpose, security, disputes, or legal duties and may follow the provider's retention schedule.

Deleted information may remain temporarily in encrypted backups or logs until they are overwritten or no longer needed. We may retain limited records when required by law, to prevent fraud or abuse, or to establish or defend legal claims.

Your controls and deletion choices

  • Clear Cache removes local copies from the device but does not delete server data.
  • Reset Interview Memory deletes learned interview preferences and continuity facts but keeps chapters and transcripts.
  • Delete All Chapter Data permanently deletes your chapters, interviews, transcripts, generated audio, reports, and learned interview information while keeping the account and its settings.
  • Delete Account permanently deletes your Chapter account and associated server data, except records we must retain. Account deletion does not cancel an App Store subscription; cancel it separately in Apple's subscription settings.

You can use these controls in Chapter Settings or email support@sedlaceksolutions.com. You may also disable analytics or AI processing in Settings and manage microphone, speech-recognition, notification, and photo permissions in iOS Settings.

Your privacy rights

Depending on where you live, you may have rights to know about, access, correct, delete, restrict, or object to processing of personal information; receive a portable copy; withdraw consent; and appeal or complain to a privacy authority. You may exercise these rights without unlawful discrimination by contacting us. We may need to verify your identity and may decline or limit a request where permitted by law.

Security and international transfers

Chapter uses measures designed to protect information, including encrypted network connections, device Keychain storage, hashed server tokens, account-scoped access controls, and short-lived signed audio links. No system can guarantee absolute security. Chapter and its providers operate in multiple countries, including the United States and European Union. Where required, we rely on recognized transfer mechanisms and contractual protections.

Children

Chapter is intended for people age 13 and older. If you are under the age of legal majority where you live, you may use Chapter only with permission from a parent or legal guardian. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child under 13 has provided information, contact us so we can delete it.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy as Chapter, its providers, or applicable laws change. We will update the effective date and provide additional notice when required. Materially different optional uses will require any consent required by law or platform rules.
